Joe is an expert behind the mixing console! He makes smooth transitions, keeps the pulse going, and continually reads and feels the crowd. He also handles the mic with poise and class!
Born in the Philippines and raised overseas as a Navy brat, Joe was dubbed "DJ Soy Sauce" as a tribute to his Asian-American descent. Currently serving in the USAF, Joe's musical taste has been influenced by his military assignments around the world. He has performed for weddings, military balls and corporate events in four countries and ten different states.
Joe is married to his high school sweetheart, Joy, and they have five children, each of whom sing and play various instruments.
Joe is passionate about music and it is showcased in his unique style of DJ'ing! Plus, being a military guy, you can be assured that he'll take care of all the details and make sure that your event goes off without a hitch!
What's your favorite type of music?
I'm into all the classics from the 80's! Reminds of me my high school days. But DJ'ing so many different kinds of events has really opened me up to just about everything. From Bruno Mars to BB King to Bon Jovi... I love it all!
Favorite thing about being a DJ?
It's different every time out. No two events are ever the same, so it keeps me on my toes! And, it's really great to be constantly learning new things - music, tech stuff, etc. We've got a great team here, and we all learn from each other. I've even learned a thing or two from my clients!
Most memorable moment?
So many!!!! I DJ’ed a Cowboy Wedding where the bride & groom were married on horseback. I was playing music in a barn, and it got so rowdy that the place caught on fire. The Fire Department came out and put the fire out. No one was hurt and my equipment was saved. We took the reception party into the house and the firefighters stuck around and partied too!
How did the name "Soy Sauce" come about?
Well, in the military we all have nicknames. I was DJ'ing an Air Force event back in California years ago, and somebody yelled out "Hey, Soy Sauce!". From that point on, the name just stuck. I even have it on my license plate. Give me a 'honk' if you see me!
Is there something that people don't know about you?
I'm a huge sports nut and a die-hard Michigan fan. Go blue! I'm really getting tired of losing to the Buckeyes. That's gotta change! This is embarrassing, but I'm also very ticklish. Sadly, I've passed that on to each of my kids!
